If you want to open a business in Puerto Rico you need to do the following:





- Apply for Merchants' Registration Certificate = everybody that do business in PR will need this certificate to operate or there would be a fine of $10K


- Depending on the City, lets say San Juan, you need to go the municipality and ask for the permits they require to open the business in their city. You will have to go to government agencies like ARPE, Fire Department, CRIM and others for permits. After you do all this, the municipality will give you a business license call ';Patente';. Is a blue certificate that it most be visible to the customer.


- We have a 7% Sales Tax that you need to collect and pay 6% to the State (Hacienda) and 1% to the Municipality. Depending on the municipality sometimes you have to pay the 7% to the State.
